This course covers the principles of written argument. It focuses on rhetorical modes and how we can use them to construct journal articles and thesis chapters. The course programme includes audience analysis, rhetorical analysis, modes of exposition, paragraph structure and writing style. This is a mini-retreat, with time for you to write in practical exercises, so bring your laptop.

Getting to Bowfield
Book your travel to arrive Glasgow Central Station 3.30pm latest, and book return departing after 6pm (train) or 7pm (plane). Howwood is 16 miles south-west of Glasgow. Trains to Johnstone and Howwood leave from Glasgow Central Station. Trains to Johnstone are more frequent, and there's a taxi company at the station (01505 336000), cost £8.80. Howwood station is 1.5 miles from Bowfield, mostly uphill.
Easiest journey from central Glasgow or airport is taxi: cost from Glasgow Central train station £28.60; from Glasgow Airport £14.60 (prices correct at August 2018 – please check).
